Hi everyone! This is my second attempt at making a Dreamwidth for myself, I hope this time I actually stick to it.
I am iri-vail at Tumblr (same account I first made in 2012) and iri_vail on AO3. I started out in fandom when I was maybe 11 or 12 (which was almost 20 years ago, to give an estimate of my age), mainly on fansites for individual books or films. Spent most of my fan-life on Tumblr after that, but I'd like to go back to the roots so I'm trying Dreamwidth.
My main interest these days is cdramas and webnovels, and mainly MDZS/CQL. I watched the drama almost two years ago and have not stopped thinking about it (and Jiang Cheng...) every single day since.
My goal is to mainly use Dreamwidth for its reading page, to join some communities and post my fanfiction (expect chengxian). The other fanworks I create are gifsets, which can be found here.
Hmm. Other interests include cosplay, Supernatural (not active, but that phase will never really leave me), poetry, video games (Like a Dragon, Persona, Baldur's Gate, bullet hells, indie). I'm also studying Chinese, trying to learn to code, studying up so I can try binding some of my fics... so maybe I will also use this journal to post updates about these.
That's it! If I do anything wrong/against etiquette on here let me know!
Late-September melancholy
Sep. 23rd, 2023 02:24 pmSo... September has been something! I realize the month isn't even over yet, really, but it feels like it's been longer than a year for me!
I had a lot lined up this month, which has all thankfully-and sadly-wrapped up. First off, there was the chengxian minibang! Looking back, it would have been wiser for my schedule to roll over into the second posting period (and giving that option is still genius to me, a life-saver! I've never had that easy, natural extension option in a bang and it made me so much more relaxed when thinking about my deadline). But I'm still proud of myself for sticking it out! And I am more than happy with the end result. Combining fanfiction and fanart is so lovely, I have to look for the next possible bang soon, it's very fulfilling!
Then, there was a work-related trip to the US - starting right at the beginning of minibang posting, which I didn't realize until it was already too late... last-minute minibang edits and packing colliding was... fun looking back, horrible in the moment, lol. The US was scary, especially traveling with ADHD medication, and all the questions they ask at customs. I didn't hear any gunshots, but I did walk through what was definitely dried blood from someone getting dragged out of a front yard out to a car... It's a scary country, but definitely beautiful, and the people were all really nice. Thanks to the lovely Uber driver who got me to the airport, such a cool guy, even if his car was tall enough that I had to practically jump into it.
I also finished three cosplays this month... Well, one full costume and parts of three others, but only two of those I actually wore. Today, I would have worn the third one, but the flight took me out (slept for 21 hours straight...) so I'm taking time off. My Jiang Cheng cosplay came out surprisingly well! I love the design they gave him in the mobile game that was announced in 2019 and never came out... There's only two screenshots where you can really see it, and one of those is only from the back, but I think I managed to do okay! Due to the time crunch, some parts are still unfinished, I'll have to get on those! Plus, Bakura was a dream project, and getting to wear Arwen with an Aragorn cosplay partner for the first time was magical.
Am I doxxing myself with this much information? Maybe. But I had the urge to journal a little today, and Dreamwidth is a great place for that.
I think my next projects will be more chengxian fanficiton! I started to write another on the plane home, which was quiet unhinged-both the fic itself and the writing-on-an-intercontinental-flight-severely-sleep-deprived. I hope I can get that one out this month. The minibang gave me a bit of a cofidence boost, or maybe that's the new meds as well. Regardless, I want to write more! I love this hobby so much. Other projects: Make a list of all the updates I need to do on my cosplays (realized a bunch of errors while wearing), think up an organization system for my crafting materials, and maybe start crocheting! I have a pattern for a Jiang Cheng amigurumi that would look lovely with its little face squashed against the plastic cover of my ita bag...
Anyway, this has been this month's information dump. Feeling a little stranded and almost melancholy because all this great stuff happened, and now I have free time again... But it's finally moving into autumn around here, so a little melancholy is just what I need to kick off the season! I think I'll go and read some of the other projects that came out of the minibang now! So much great stuff is being posted~

Feeling accomplished!
Aug. 31st, 2023 11:01 pmI managed to bang out most of my chengxian minibang fic! Now it's mostly edits left. As I expected, I'll be clocking in somewhat over the 5K tier I signed up for, but I won't reach the 10K of tier 2.
It's been a rewarding story to write! I'm a writer who usually focuses more on introspection and short little character pieces than actual plot. I think that still shines through, but this time, I actually managed to follow the semblance of an actual narrative.
Wei Wuxian is a fun, yet difficult character to write. I've tried my best to make him as the narrator think his way carefully around topics he is well-aware of but doesn't want to address - difficult, but fun. I think I managed to pull it off okay; I'm actually way more worried about my Jiang Cheng characterization. I might have made him way too tsundere... We'll see once I'm through with editing and have the finale finished up.
I was so productive today that I actually put myself back on schedule. Was ADHD meds the thing I needed to finally be able to keep up with bigbang deadlines? I feel unstoppable lol.
Dreamwidth is still going well. I like to check the reading page in the morning, it moves comfortably slowly. And having a place to put stuff like this is nice. Tumblr, even though it is also anonymous, still feels to public somehow.
